Well it's been a minute since we have caught up with Mike
Jones, which was back in Chicago last Spring. What’s funny
is actually remembered our last encounter.

What’s up this your girl Kreoliciouz and I’m chilling with Mike
Jones, who was just telling me how its too cold out here in
New York.

But I got love for New York, it’s just super cold. Back in
Houston, I’d be rocking a muscle shirt.

That’s what’s up, and you looking good. Lost some weight.

I lost almost 50 pounds, just trying to hold it down.

You look nice, I know the ladies is like WOW!

Appreciate it, and I’m single! (laughs) Mike Jones! Who

So what brings you to New York?

Came out here working the new single, “Drop & Gimme 50”.
Shaking DJ’s hands, letting them know I’m back in the market
and on my grind. Really just going back to what I was doing
before the majors, and [before] everyone convinced us to stop
the mixtapes; going back to the essence, to the basics.

I like the single, tell us the concept of “Drop & Gimme 50”?

Like I tell everybody, when I came out, my grandma used to
always tell me to go to the strip clubs. I got the girls to dance to
my records, and when T-Pain came to with “I’m in Love with a
Stripper”, that was around my alley. Then we did “Bad” with
Ying Yang Twins and I wrote the hook, so I said I gotta do
another one.

Back in the day you used to write songs for each stripper.

This song to you, it may be, “okay its coo, that’s hot”, but to the
strippers where I’m from, they like, “that’s the Mike Jones I
Know”. So I went back for them, and they know this song is for
the world and they feel they can own because they like “fuck
yall, Mike Jones here with us. I’m in the club, drop and gimme
50.” So that song was more for the world but it satisfied the
strippers. The ladies love with Mike Jones.

So when is the album dropping?

“Voice of the Streets” April 22nd, and its really going to come
out this time, as long as my label stay on what they got to stay
on. And I’m go stay on what I’m go stay on too, no blame on
anyone, we all a team. We have a great team right now, the
video doing its thing, and radio doing its thing. We letting it
grow organically and not trying to force it and just let it build. So
about time everyone goes for research, everyone knows the
record and is familiar with it, and we just go on to the next level.

So the video is out, what is the video concept?

Really, its totally opposite from what we really should have
done, and that’s because of corporate. How I wanted to do it,
was me in the strip club, 100 to 200 girls everywhere dropping
it, money flying everywhere. I’m rapping, looking how bad she
is in action, but we gotta keep in mind BET, a lot of stuff gotta
get cut, edited, so we really just did the 35mm and showed us
real crisp and clean. We couldn’t do it how we wanted to, but
we put out a dirty version without me in it, that people grasp to
more than the original video.

So where can we check that one out at, now that programs
like “Uncut” are off the air?

YouTube! We got 300,000 views off that [video]. But people like
the new “Drop & Gimme 50” video because they never seen
me without the grill, without the durag, without the weight! So
they like I ain’t never saw this guy, is that Mike Jones?
For those who haven’t seen him yet, you will be surprised.

They played it on 106 & Park, and Rocsi showed me so much
love. She like, “man he lost that weight, he looking good, don’t he
ladies”, and ever since then girl will call and its starting to grow.
So I’m just staying focus and still working out and maintaining
my size. Shaking hands and getting back out here with the
people. This time the politics are out the way, and I ain’t going no
where.

You mentioned YouTube earlier, what do you think of the new
age with MySpace, YouTube, the new form of communication
that wasn’t here 5 to 10 years ago.

If YouTube was here when I first came out, I would have did 4
million. If I would have had my YouTube phone that I got right
now, with the momentum I had in 2005, and the songs, I would
have did 4 Million. But it’s a different time and a different day, and
I got the YouTube phone right now, and we number 4 on
YouTube. To me that is great when you can be number 200, and
we number 4, so we holding it down.

How did you hook up with Hurricane Chris?

Actually through Collipark, that fam. Every time we link up it’s
magic. That’s why people can’t call him Smurf, I call him that. He
know when I call him that, it’s a reason. Mr. Collipark make
certain type of tracks. He can make anything you want, but Smurf,
he go specialize in that bounce. Listen to “Bad” and listen to
“Drop & Gimme 50”. I say Smurf, you did the fool with this one
baby and on the last one, Smurf, you did it again baby. So if not a
bounce track, Collipark, but me, I’m a fan of Smurf. I love
Collipark, that’s my brother. You know how you love weed, but
you’ll pick cush over anything. I ask him, who am I working with
Collipark or Smurf?

So it’s like a alter-ego?

Yea like with me, Mike Jones or Mr. Jones. I know when he go be
Smurf cuz he’ll get in the studio and (imitates tracks) even if I’m
not rapping, the girls ill hear the tracks and its makes you wanna
move. Then Hurricane he got voice, (imitates Hurricane) and all I
had to do was get in there and do my thing and it was over with.

The album drops April 22nd, what features we looking at?

Akon, JR Rida, who worked with Sean Kingston. He did the song
with me, Akon, and Plies called “Burner”. Even though laws is
patrolling, you still gotta keep your burner cuz you  got people
more slicker than them that will run up on you. I got Lil Wayne, T-
Pain, and Twista on my next single, its called “Cuddy Buddy”. I
got Krayzie Bone and Chamillionaire on a song called,
“Dreams”. I got Trey Songz, The Dream, and working on one with
J Holiday. This album right here go be the one, I promise you.

I appreciate you giving us a bit of your time as you swing
through New York, I know we can’t keep you.

I know, I wish I could have stayed.

You out here looking for your stunna shades, your Louis
Vuitton. I don’t even know where to send you.

Ooooooh Yea, I got to get them clean Louis, I got to get my shine
on.

Well there you have it, make sure you cop the album. After the
